27 February 2025 The Pokémon Company has unveiled the beginning of a new era in the Pokémon Trading Card Game: the Mega Evolution series. Mega Evolution last appeared in the XY and Sun & Moon eras, and it returns with fresh mechanics and serious power.

Cards shown in previews are under development.

What is changing with Mega Evolution?

Mega Evolution is often called “the evolution that transcends evolution”. In the new series, Mega Evolution Pokémon ex trade risk for reward: higher HP and heavier attacks in exchange for your opponent taking three Prize cards if they are Knocked Out. This increases the variety of Prize trades and adds depth to planning your turns.

Spotlight: Mega Lucario ex

As a Stage 1 with a colossal 340 HP, Mega Lucario ex rivals many Stage 2 Pokémon ex. Aura Jab hits for 130 and accelerates up to three basic Energy from your discard to your Benched Pokémon. Mega Brave can reach an eye‑watering 270 damage for very efficient Energy costs, allowing Lucario to lead from the front or power up your board behind it.

Spotlight: Mega Gardevoir ex

This Stage 2 boasts some of the highest HP revealed so far. Overflowing Wishes attaches a basic Energy from your deck to each Benched Pokémon, rapidly flooding your board. Follow up with Mega Symphonia, which scales damage based on total Psychic Energy in play, to convert that setup into knockouts.

Type‑specific tools shake up damage maths

Premium Power Pro is a new Item that boosts attacks of your Fighting‑type Pokémon by 30 damage, reminiscent of PlusPower and Power Tablet. Using multiples in one turn offers explosive potential timing is everything.
